About Razzamataz Theatre Schools

Prior to establishing Razzamataz Theatre Schools in 2000, Denise Hutton (pictured below) had been a professional dancer, choreographer and gymnast for over 10 years, performing around the world on cruise ships, in pantomimes, summer seasons, European and UK tours, the Millennium Dome and the London Palladium. In 2002, Denise was runner up in the Prince’s Trust Young Business Person of the Year Awards. As well as teaching in the UK, she has taught gymnastics and dance in Canada.
Razzamataz Theatre Schools began in 2000 with just 25 students and 3 teachers, and today hundreds of students attend the schools across Cumbria and Scotland and our business is continually growing, with Derby being the most recent school! Children between the ages of 5 and 18 will receive top class dance, drama and singing lessons from a wide range of professional and experienced teachers – many of whom are professional performers in their own right.
Kylie Minogue's choreographer, Tim Noble will once again be taking Razzamataz students through their paces in early March 2007, where he will be offering all our students the fantastic opportunity to dance with him in a full day workshop!

How It Works

Razzamataz Theatre Schools classes are open to anyone aged between 5—17 and are separated into three age groups: Juniors (5—8yrs), Intermediates (9—11yrs) and Seniors (12—17yrs). Our classes are based around an hour each of singing, drama and dance (40 minutes for Juniors). Classes take place once a week for 36 weeks divided into three terms that run similar to the normal school year, 3x12 week terms (we do not always close for half term). Each child will receive tuition in all aspects of the performing arts, including musical theatre, song & dance, pop singing, street dance, drama & mime & physical theatre on a rotating basis. Our classes are structured in such a way that it is pop, fast & funky one week and musical theatre and more classical & technical the following week. Certain schools also operate a fun session aimed at younger children - Razz Minis is run especially as a fun, yet informative, introduction to the world of performing arts.

Latest News - Denise enters the Dragons Den (and wins!)

Founder of Razzamataz Theatre Schools, Denise Hutton, appeared recently on BBC TV's "Dragons Den" to encourage investment in her franchise proposition. Taking four of her pupils along for assistance, she wowed the judges by her original and highly entertaining singing and dancing sales pitch. Things didn't look too promising at first, with four of the Dragons declining to invest for a variety of reasons. However, Duncan Bannatyne (supposedly the fiercest Dragon in the Den) saw the potential of Razzamataz Theatre Schools and offered Denise the full amount of investment she was seeking! He revealed that he had invested in a similar franchise in the past (and had enjoyed a healthy return on that investment), and felt that Denise's business represented an opportunity to develop the brand along similar lines. With such a ringing endorsement from one of the UK's shrewdest businessmen, Denise can now look forward to building Razzamataz Theatre Schools into a national institution!
